There is a wide range of furniture in the market place classified as toddler furniture. The range includes beds, chairs, sofas, tables, desks, bookcases, chests of drawers, toy boxes and various other types of storage.
However, bookcases, chests of drawers, toy boxes and other forms of storage can be used at any age.
Real toddler furniture is designed specifically for a toddler's size.
It is also designed with bright colours and particular themes to appeal to a toddler's young mind.
You can get beds, chairs, sofas, desks and tables all made specifically with the size of a toddler in mind.
You could go the whole hog and buy a full range of furniture including the bed, chest of drawers, bookcase, table and chairs, toy chest and wardrobe all as a matching set.
But being practical and financially prudent you toddler is only small for 3 or 4 years.
It makes sense to buy stuff that will last at least until they are a decade old.
I believe the one main need for toddlers is a set of table and chairs small enough for them to sit down and access a table's flat surface with ease.
With a normal table and chair they have to climb on the chair and kneel on it to use the table's surface comfortably. There is always the danger of a fall. With a small table and chair the danger of falling is removed or greatly reduced.
So, what furniture do you buy? I reckon the only toddler specific furniture you need is a small table and chairs set. The rest should be furniture that will still be appropriate for a child of 10 or 11 years old.
My grandson at 3 was already sleeping in an adult size twin bed, using a normal built in wardrobe with a lower rail for clothes that needed to be hung. The bookcases and storage furniture in his room can be used for a lifetime.
Having said that, there is a lot of appealing furniture out there that allows you to spoil your toddler. There are many types of toddler beds, chairs, bedroom furniture, toy boxes and chests and lots of ideas and themes for bedroom design.
So no matter what your budget or inclination is, you should be able to get the toddler furniture you need.
